Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. – Winston Churchill

Churchill’s statement has two immediate insights:

  1. We should not let failure depress us, nor should we let success make us complacent. There will be many more challenges in the future. “It is the courage to continue that counts.”
  1. You can’t say you are successful or a failure, in a general sense. You may succeed in one aspect of life and fail in a different aspect of life. For example, you could be financially successful but have a complicated family life. You may have a great social life but be unhealthy or unfit. Life is an ongoing series of varying experiences. “It is the courage to continue that counts.”
